Since January 2008 the currency used in the Republic of Cyprus is the Euro, which has seven different notes and eight coins. The notes range from 5 euros to 500 euros and each note is a different colour and increases in size with value. Prior to this change the currency was the Cypriot Pound, some shops and restaurants still accept Cypriot Pounds but it is not preferred.
